Android web traffic beats out iOS in every region worldwide

While this is not exactly surprising given the Android’s global market share is bigger than iOS. What these stats often over look is despite the fact Android user’s heavily out number iOS, it is often the iOS users who are easier to monetize and generate the most revenue per user.

Apple event on 23 March, says well-known leaker

News about that there will be an Apple event on the 23rd March. New devices to include AirTags, iPad Pro, AirPods and Apple TV. I’ve had my 1080p Apple TV 4 for a whle now and have been patiently waiting for them to release a new version so I could switch to the 4k edition. Interested to see what the AirTags will be like as well as updated AirPods.

Apple Issues Clarification Over Default Music Service Feature for iOS 14.5 Beta

It was previously reported that Apple would allow users to select their default music service, similar to what users can now do for email and browser preferences. Apparently according to Apple this is no the case. Such a shame as Spotify user I was really looking forward to this, really frustrating that all music features on my phone default to Apple Music when I don’t have nor want an account with them.

Apple to invest $1.2 billion amid EU push for semiconductor dominance

Seems like the big push to diversify the supply chain of tech is continuing. With China pretty much dominating the supply chain of electronic goods there appears to be a big push from the US and EU to try and remove that dependency and create further options for manufacturing. Possibly due to the global pandemic!

Apple in talks to buy self driving car sensors

The plot thickens! We have seen countless rumours of Apple engaging with various car manufacturers regarding a partnership to build self driving cars. However most of these appear to have been denied or the discussions have been cancelled. However it still appears based on this rumour that the self driving car tech is continuing with Apple exploring supply chains for self driving car sensors.

Apple leaks radically different designs for AirPods Max in new patent

This is interesting, I haven’t had an opportunity myself to wear a pair of the AirPods Max myself however the reviews have been fairly mixed. I’ve heard a lot of good feedback on them however there are many reviews that they feel heavy and not at the right quality for the price point which is surprising for Apple as generally build quality if something they shine on. The fact they are already looking to modify the design heavily looks like they are aware of the issues and looking to make a change.

Apple increases scrutiny of ‘irrationally high’ app prices

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Of course I expect Apple to try and protect users from getting stung by scammy apps however I would expect an end user to at least evaluate the prices for themselves before hitting the buy button. I feel they are treading a fine line here, especially as it is the app developers who are setting the price that they see fit for their products.

Apple TV+ now available on Android TV

Interesting to see Apple developer software for other platforms. As they have begun to pivot into services to supplement their hardware income they are almost forced to integrate some of these services across other platforms. Typically Apple develops services for their own products whilst largely ignoring other platforms. Personally I feel it can only be beneficial for both users and Apple if users are able to get access to Apple services on other platforms.

Hyundai says it is not in talks with Apple to make self-driving cars

We keep hearing lots of interesting rumours regarding the self driving car project at Apple. The project supposedly named ‘Titan’ first rumoured 2014–2015 looked dead in the water after a number of employees were laid off in 2019.

Recently news had been swirling that Apple were engaging in talks with car manufacturers but has been put to bed. Still intrigued to see where this goes. Will they look to make their own car? Or look to sell the tech required to automakers to use in their own vehicles?

MacBooks might be losing the Touch Bar

Honestly I can’t say I’ll miss it. While on the surface it looks like a neat feature in reality it was something that I rarely used as my main focus is always on my screen. Most people can touch type these days so having to stop and look down seems to have been a deal breaker. Maybe they have some analytics to back up my opinion!

Users can now unlock their iPhone with the Apple Watch if face mask is detected

This is a great feature and something I am very looking forward to. While I do like Face ID, it has been a pain since the beginning of the pandemic so have to constantly have to put in your passcode when out with a mask on. Oh how spoiled we have become by Touch ID / Face ID. Remember when the only way to unlock your phone was with a passcode?

iOS 14.5 lets users change the default music service for your iPhone

As a Spotify user myself, this has been a long time coming. It’s always frustrated me that I haven’t been able to control music playback using voice commands. Glad to see this change finally come through, hopefully their will be app updates soon to help support the integration

Google looking to add Apple style anti-tracking feature to Android

Seems a strange idea for a platform who’s main design goal is spy on end users as much as possible to facilitate better ad targeting. Sounds more like they want to be seen to be protecting user privacy as users are becoming more aware of the issues, but without actually doing anything to protect said users

Leak reveals new Android 12 design

Glad I’m not the only one who thought it looked a lot like iOS after viewing the screenshots. Continuing the trend of both platforms copying features / ideas from each other.

Apple Maps can now report accidents, hazards and speed checks

We’ve come a long way since Apple Maps disastrous launch and it’s great to see it getting these features. However I still feel it has a long way to go to winning back my confidence. I still find myself reluctantly using Google Maps for navigation.
